WCSUK 12th Year Anniversary Party With Live Music & Annual Royal Marsden Cancer Charity Fundraiser!

You’re all invited to join Catriona & the WCSUK Team to celebrate our 12th year of WCS dancing in the UK and my 17th year of being cancer free !

13:00-23:45, Saturday 19 August 2017

“In Memory of My Mother Robin Wiles – 1943-2011”

WOW! Huge thank you to each and every one of you that came along to support our West Coast Swing UK 12th Year Anniversary Party! What an amazing day we had celebrating 12 years of WCSUK! We got off to a bit of a slow start but by the end of the day, the dance floor was full and spirits were high! I had originally hoped to raise £500 from the day but we’ve actually more than doubled that and raised a fantastic £1110 so far from ticket sales, the charity “Jill & Jack” contest, personal donations and via my Just Giving page! These funds will be donated in full to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity in memory of my mum, Robin Wiles and all our loved ones! So all I can say is “Thank You” to each and every one of you that contributed! None of this would be possible without you! It means a lot to me personally and please know that you’re making a huge difference to the Royal Marsden too!

This day is a huge operational undertaking so there are some very special people to thank for donating their time and expertise for free; Paul Abbott & Janette Fox (venue set up and door), Coleen Man & Gareth Siret (Flashmob workshop & judging), Fabienne Henshall (judging), Justin Petersen (comp deejay), Lee Easton (comp scoring & deejay), Graham Burke (resident deejay), Clive Gidney (photography), Ned Gould (videography) and Gale Vincent & Clare Storm (baking)!

Huge thanks to our guest instructor from NYC, Exenia Rocco who taught for us and even sang a song after about 10 minutes rehearsal! It was also fun to dance to her very own tune available on Spotify later in the evening! And of course special thanks to our live duo, Simpl’US, Yannick Gioia & Nicolas Thomas for exceeding all expectations with both their sets! What a treat to be able to dance to live music that’s been especially put together by artists who understand our dancing needs! Can’t wait to have them back with us at “SwingV” in November!

Massive congratulations to all our WCSUK Annual Awards recipients;

  • Most Improved Female – Lindsey Rowatt
  • Most Improver Male – Leo Burne
  • Dancers’ Choice Favourite Female – Anne Ligez
  • Dancers’ Choice Favourite Male – Gareth Siret
  • Dancers’ Choice Favourite Deejay – Paul Abbott

Massive congratulations also to our Royal Marsden Cancer Charity “Jill & Jack” contest winners;

  • 3rd Place – Sally Fullwood leading Ben Brett
  • 2nd Place – Mandy Henderson leading Richard James
  • 1st Place – Susan Minor leading Edwin Smith

If anyone would still like to Make A Donation to my fundraising efforts, my JustGiving page will be open for as long as the site lets me! Please click here! Or you can make a personal donation that I will pass on in full at any time! Many thanks everyone!

It’s that time of the year again! You’re all invited to join us for a full day of dance and fun to mark the occasion of our West Coast Swing UK 12th Year Anniversary! It’s also my 17th Year of being cancer-free thanks to life saving treatment I received via the NHS back in 2000! Miracles do happen but there are still an awful lot of cancer tragedy stories which each and every one of us are affected by at some point or another! In fact, sadly my mother Robin lost her brief but intense battle with cancer 6 years ago and since that moment, all of my fundraising efforts have been and will be made in her memory!

It is my goal to be able to raise at least £500 from this party to donate to the Royal Marsden as a thank you for the miraculous work they do on a daily basis! Last year we set the same goal but managed to raise a fantastic £1101.70 which well exceeded my goal! Maybe we’ll be able to do the same again this year, or with your help, possibly even better!

So please join me in celebrating 12 years of WCSUK, my survival, all of your stories with happy endings and this fundraising effort! Thank you all so much in advance!

On the day, you will be able to anonymously nominate names for the following categories;

1 – “Dancers’ Choice” Most Popular Female Dancer
2 – “Dancers’ Choice” Most Popular Male Dancer
3 – “Dancers’ Choice” Favourite Deejay

If you cannot make the party but would like to vote by proxy, you can confidentially send me a FB message, email, text or call with your choices and your votes will be counted! Better still, come along and see your favourite peeps receive their awards!

We will also be awarding “Most Improved Male & Female Dancers” as selected by the WCSUK team!
